Must have the basic knowledge of the following stitches:
Blanket Stitch, Lazy Daisy Stitch, Stem stitch, Detached buttonhole (One row only) Cast-on Stitches, straight stitch, French Knots
Color selection for the thread packet is the colors Maria used plus some alternatives
Horse:  Iris 315  (Alternate: Iris 226)
Eye: Iris 226 (Or Brown part of 315) Metallic thread gives a nice effect.
Large leaf : Iris 410
Carnations on Horses Mane: Lola 153. 
Buds on Mane: Lola 153  
April flower: Iris & Glory 026 
Outer corners, Carnations & Buds in Corners Lola 008, 018, 070, 082  
Greens: Iris 410
Outside fleur de leis:  Candlelight or Krenick #8 in Gold/Silver. 
Or any Lola of your choice
